Sunday Business Post Interview
I was interviewed by Niamh Donnelly of Ireland’s Business Post about The Silent Treatment, my inspiration and how I came to be so fascinated with the concept of silence.
Niamh asked some incredibly pertinent questions and I hope you will enjoy reading the interview as much as I enjoyed giving it.
Here’s a small snippet:
Greaves didn’t tell anyone about her writing, cowed by “the crippling fear of failure we all have”. This fear is somewhat exemplified in her characters. We discuss Maggie’s compulsion to be “good” – a good daughter, good mother, good wife. She sees a similar tendency in her own friends.
“I don’t know if it’s particularly female, but there’s this pressure to fit a certain mould: not to be too much like this type of woman, or too much like that. I wonder if it’s partly to do with the fact that in the pre-virus universe we were overwhelmed with options. And how do you sift through that? How do you make the good choice?”
